Asset ROI: has your equipment paid for itself?
ROI analysis is available on Professional and Business plans. Revenue attribution flows through Projects (Business plan).
"Should we buy the second excavator?" is a numbers question. Analytics → Assets ROI answers it.
How the math works
Cost basis per asset = purchase price + maintenance costs + asset-tagged expenses. (Expenses generated from a maintenance log are never double-counted.)
Revenue per asset = cash actually collected on invoices belonging to projects the asset is attached to. Attach assets to the projects they work on and every dollar those projects collect is attributed back to the equipment that earned it.
ROI % = (Revenue − Cost) ÷ Cost.
The attribution toggle
When one project uses several assets, you choose how its revenue is shared:
- Full participation (default) — each payment counts in full toward every asset on the project. Best for "which assets touch the most revenue?" — note per-asset figures can overlap.
- Even split — each payment is divided equally among the project's assets. Best for conservative per-asset comparisons.
The four totals cards (Project Revenue, Total Cost, Net Return, Assets Paid Back) are de-duplicated real cash and never change with the toggle.
The payback chart
Pick any asset in "When does it pay for itself?" and watch cumulative revenue race cumulative cost month by month from the purchase date, with the break-even point marked. The verdict is spelled out: "Paid for itself on March 2026 (14 months) — $8,200 ahead" or "Not yet paid back — $3,100 to go."

Getting good numbers
- Record purchase prices — no cost basis, no ROI
- Tag expenses to assets and log maintenance — real costs, not just sticker price
- Attach assets to projects — that's the revenue wire; unattached assets read $0
